group rules
All are welcome to Scatterstar Isles. This group acts as a centralized location for the Curio species related… well, everything! The group is free for anyone to join regardless if you own a Curio or not. All you have to do as a member of this group is treat your fellow members with respect and follow the rules of the species.
If you’re interested in participating in the arpg elements of the group (which are totally optional), all you have to do is register your character, create a tracker, and submit your registration sheet with a link to your tracker to the group. If you do not yet own a Curio keep an eye out for auctions, flatsales, and MYO (make-your-own) sales that will be announced. If you’re not in a position to purchase a Curio, consider joining raffles posted on the discord/group or participating in art-to-adopt events hosted by the group. Please note that Curios are a closed species, and making your own without permission is not allowed.
Those who decide to violate the rules of the group or species will be subject to a three strikes system. A third violation will result in being blacklisted. If an offense is severe enough, an owner can be banned without any other strikes against them.
Please read all of the rules carefully. Any edits to them will be announced in the group's newsfeed; if we feel any are being abused, they will be altered. If you have any questions please feel free to note the group and we will gladly clarify!

trading and selling
Before trading or selling your Curio, please consult the following rules:
- Transfers of ownership must be recorded in the respective masterlist entry.
- Vouchers for games, products, or gift cards are not permitted. (We do not consider buying an existing character design to trade for a curio to be a voucher.)
- Curios may only be sold if they were purchased by the current owner in an auction, sale, or resale. If the design was received by the current owner in a trade, then it may only be traded.
- MYO Slots may not change ownership until they have an official design. To sell or trade an unused MYO Slot, the finished design must be submitted via the current owner and then officially traded/resold to the new owner. Afterwards they may be traded or sold according to what is permitted for that particular character. Trade/sale status will be listed in the masterlist entry for that character.
- Curios earned in raffles may not be sold, but may be traded. There is a 60-day cooldown for raffle designs before they may be traded.
- If reselling a curio, it must be resold at purchase price. Adding the cost of commissions or personal art is not allowed.
- Upgrades of traits to higher rarities (ie with Bottled Traits or special event items) are permanent. When trading a Curio with these upgrades, they will carry over to the new owner. The new owner will have the option to revert to the prior design, but this cannot be undone and any item originally used will not be returned.
- Downgrades of traits to lower rarities (performed through design edits by the previous owner) may be reverted back to their original design and rarity by the new owner. However, if the design is downgraded again by the new owner, this cannot be undone by them. See "Editing Your Curio" for more information.
- We do not allow co-ownership of Curios. If someone is offering co-ownership, know it is not endorsed by the group, and if problems arise the owner listed on the species masterlist will be recognized as the default owner. No appeals can be made on this, so trade wisely.
Before trading or selling your in-game items or currency, please consult the following rules:
- In-game items can be traded amongst users for other items, art, designs, or tokens. The group will not regulate these trades, however, so please trade with caution.
- In-game currency (such as tokens) may be used to buy items, art, or designs from other players. Art and designs do not need to be related to Curios or the Scatterstar ARPG.
- In-game items and currency can NOT be sold for real-life currency (USD, Euro, CAD, et cetera).
- Vouchers are not permitted.
- In-game items or currency may be gifted to other players freely.
- The only exception to trading/gifting is if an item is bound to a curio. This will be noted on the masterlist entry.
- All item or token trades/gifts must be documented in your inventory tracker. Please leave a comment on the Trading Post as well.

group payments
Scatterstar Isles holds regular sales of premade designs and MYO Slots. We accept all payments through PayPal, and a mod will send you payment information upon making a purchase.
All sales are final and are made in good faith. In the event of a chargeback (reversing a payment via PayPal), however, all group activities/sales/raffles will be frozen for the user. If the chargeback is reversed then the freeze will be lifted, but the user may be privately banned from all future sales and raffles. (The user will be notified if this is the case.)
If the chargeback is not reversed, the following rules apply to any MYO Slots and designs that were charged back for:
- Unused MYO Slots will be voided.
- Submitted MYO designs will be voided and must have their key curio traits removed.
- Premade designs will have their ownership revoked as they are no longer paid for, and may be relisted for sale. Takedowns will be issued as needed on sites such as Toyhouse.
We expect all players to make purchases responsibly and only spend within their means. But if you have concerns or need to back out of a payment, please consult with a mod for assistance.

make-your-own designs
MYO (make-your-own) designs are exactly what they sound like--an official curio, but you've designed it yourself! Curios are a closed species and cannot be made without permission, but MYO slots can be acquired several ways, including buying during a MYO sale, winning in raffles, or purchasing with in-game currency earned through participation.
While the final design of a MYO is up to you, there are some rules to follow to keep things consistent:
- All MYOs must have the key traits of a Curio, as outlined under General Anatomy.
- You may use only the traits permitted by your slot--standard MYO slots feature all common traits, but higher rarities can be unlocked with in-game items or a fee at the time of purchase, or may be pre-granted if the slot is special. Your slot's traits will be outlined on its masterlist entry.
- You may use your slot to create a Curio form of your existing original character of another species, but traits still must be within what your slot has, as outlined above.
- You may NOT use your slot to create a Curio based on commercial characters (ie Naruto, Boku no Hero Academia, Legend of Zelda). Designs found to be of this nature will be automatically rejected.
- You are more than welcome to peruse the masterlist for inspiration, but do not copy or closely reference a design. Designs we feel too closely resemble existing Curios will be rejected.
- You may commission someone else to design your Curio for you! However, please be aware that in the case that edits need to be made, your artist may charge you a fee for the changes. We recommend consulting with them in advance on the subject.
- MYO slots do not have a time limit, you may take as long as you wish.
- Works-in-progress of potential MYO designs may NOT be shared publicly (ie work-in-progress shares, discord posting, etc), unless you already have the MYO slot and needed trait items in your ownership. You may NOT post a finished MYO design to your gallery until after it is approved.
- Completed MYO designs may be gifted, traded, or sold according to how they were acquired. This status will be listed on the masterlist entry.
To get your design approved, please send the final image along with a list of traits and a link to your MYO slot masterlist entry in a note to the group! We will reply with either approval or recommended edits. Please do NOT message any moderators individually.

editing your curio
Curio designs may be edited using Bottled Traits, event prizes, or the Mysterious Powder in the Trading Post. However, these edits are subject to certain rules, in order to both preserve the spirit of the original artist's work and to prevent existing designs from being used as an unsanctioned MYO slot. While the edit rules are a bit lax, each edit will be judged on a case by case basis, and may be rejected for being too extreme.
Rules for editing your curio have been moved to the design edit guide, which you can check out for more information.

group submissions
All submissions to the group must be SFW and related to Curios. Unrelated submissions will be rejected. Here are descriptions of each folder in the group to help you better place your submissions.
- Adopt Sales and Auctions: Curios made by HEAVENDELUXE and guest artists will be submitted here. If you’re looking to purchase a Curio this is a great place to check out!
- Registration Sheets: Players who wish to participate in the ARPG will be required to submit their registration sheets here. If you trade, sell, or gift your Curio character, please remove your registration sheet from this folder to prevent doubles. If you simply wish to no longer participate in the ARPG, you may remove the registration sheet if you wish. Blank registration sheets can be found here.
- General Art: Submit art or writing that isn’t for ARPG activities or events here! Things like commissions or art drawn for Curios are welcome here. Work that qualifies for exp but not expeditions, or art where less than 50% of the character is shown, belongs here.
- Prompt Entries: Every month the group offers unique prompts for players to participate in. For your monthly entries to count and be rolled, they must be posted here. For more information on monthly prompts, check out the group’s home page.
- Expedition Entries: Expeditions are available at all times for players. Post expedition entries here to have them rolled. For more information on expeditions, click [here].
- Guild Tests: When your character has accumulated enough exp, post their upgrade tests here. To learn more about guilds, test requirements, or EXP, please click on the respective links.
- Journals and Curio-Related Commissions: Trade and seeking journals may be posted here. Please only submit trade journals if you are sure you are willing to part with your Curio, and please do not spam it repeatedly. We do not allow journals that are only entertaining offers. If you are posting a seeking or trade journal Curios must be clearly featured. Commissions must strictly relate to the species (such as YCHs or Curio-only).

collaborative work
For monthly prompts, exploration, and world events, collabs are welcome! Since everyone’s creative process differs we have created a flexible set of guidelines for players. This requires players to be honest, and if we feel that the system is being abused it will be altered.
- Collaborators must do an equal amount of work on a submission.
- Collaborators must list out what tasks each person did.
- Art collaborations must include shading and show 75% of BOTH participants' focus curios.
- Writing collaborations must be at least 2x the minimum for that entry.
- Paired art-writing collaborations are allowed, but writing portions must be a minimum of 2000 words.
- Collaborators will receive identical drops and both be rewarded an equal amount of tokens/exp.
- Drop-affecting items (Lantern, Lucky Token, etc) cannot be used on collaborative entries.
- To use the Journeyman+ drop tables, both focus characters must be from the same guild and ranked Journeyman or above.

pets and mounts
- Players can add and remove mounts and pets as they please.
- Designs of the pets and mounts can be altered at the player’s will but we do ask for some consistency. (For example If an applied pet looks completely different in every entry it is in it becomes unclear how many of one pet a player actually owns.) If we see this rule being abused multiple times then this rule will be made more strict.
- For a player’s curio to own a pet/mount they must have the pet/mount listed on the curio’s reg sheet along with proof of ownership.
- The maximum bonus still applies for pets and mounts in monthly events and expeditions. For example if your curio has four mounts applied and all four are depicted in an expedition piece only two are counted for the bonus.
- If you draw an entry and then remove the drawn pet from the participating curio’s reg sheet before the entry is rolled it will no longer count as an active pet. Please be aware of this while switching out pets/mounts!
- If an event has a pet or mount as a featured prize drop may count towards the pet or mount bonus so long as they follow the other rules for inclusion (% visible % present in a story)

background characters
We understand the need for background characters, such as relatives, old friends, and even just random curios that appear in a literal background. You are welcome to use extra characters as needed, without the need to save for a MYO slot for each of them or recruit other players' curios to fill the role. However, in the interest of keeping everything fair to those who have earned or bought curios, please keep these rules in mind:
- Background characters can have a basic design and backstory, but may not be posted for reference or as a character in the way you would post your official curio.
- Background characters cannot have traits that are super rare or above.
- Background characters cannot be registered and do not count for guest bonuses. If you make the character official later, you can NOT go back and retroactively add guest bonuses to submissions that predate them being made official.
- Background characters should be kept to relevant side roles and cannot be the focus character of an entry. While they can appear in multiple entries, they should be used sparingly, and may be banned from future entries if they become a regular character.
-Background characters that are Ankuri can have one (or no) mutation. Likewise tech touched Undyre such as the freed tech touched or the AI controlled tech touched may be portrayed with tech touched traits.
While we don't keep an exact tally on which background characters appear where, if we notice one making too many appearances and/or becoming too central to the ongoing story, we will issue a warning. As with all rules, if we find this being abused, we will increase restrictions.
